Being ill | NRC Workshop
In my 3rd year at St. Joost I attended a workshop Editorial Illustration by NRC. We got to experience the full process of making an illustration for a newspaper.
These were my final spot- and main illustration. You can read he article here.
During my process I was unsure if the blood would be too graphic. In anticipation of that I made alternative versions. Personally I prefer the original because it feels more suffocating and uncomfortable, which was a prevelent part of the article to me.
In the feedback round we had an insightful conversation about graphic elements in editorial work. The conclusion was "it depends on a lot of factors such as: The other articles in the issue, the general tone of an article and the target audience."
